Blog Four: Candidate Perspectives

The perspectives that the candidates have on the importance of returning to In-Person learning seem to be very similar.  The differences appear in how they are being rolled out or communicated.  Although no position was presented here for Jorgensen, and Hawkins is rather brief, focusing on who should have control over the decisions, Biden and Trump clearly have similar perspectives.

Each of these candidates noted the negative long term impacts especially for students with fewer resources.  Biden outlined a five step plan, and pointed to specific research on learning loss.  President Trump presented similar priorities in the source, Donald Trump, “President Donald J. Trump Is Working to Give Students and Parents Flexibility and Schools the Support They Need to Reopen This Fall,” whitehouse.gov, July 23, 2020 .  The concerns seem to be consistent, but the differences appear more in where and how decisions are made for application.

Biden

Clearly outlined five step plan

Trump

Thoughts and ideas seem to be very similar to Biden, although presented without the format of a plan.

Jorgensen

No position given

Hawkins

No one size fits all- control should be given to local districts.
